Quick update on an awesome little bit of success for my game dev group, XMPT Games...

We went along to the Eurogamer Rezzed game conference again this year, and took part in the game jam.  Six teams were given 8 hours to develop a game from scratch, and we only got told the theme on the morning just before we began making it.  The game we created, "Personal Space Invaders", was a 4-player arena combat hugging simulator ;D

The next day we presented what we'd made, streamed live to the internet via the Eurogamer website, and judged by awesome people like Mike Bithell (Thomas Was Alone), Dean Hall (Day Z), and Martyn from the Yogscast!...  And we won the game jam :D

We'll be releasing the game for free download on our website soon - I'll let you know when it's available.  Despite being a massive rush to get it done in 8 hours, we still had a blast playing it against each other and the other guys at the expo, and hopefully more people will be able to enjoy it once we put it up on the website.  (It will run on PC, Mac or Linux, but you'll need 4 players in the same room and 4 gamepads to enjoy it - it's just not possible to write network multiplayer code in 8 hours - though we might add it later if there's anough demand!).

Here's the video of the game jam presentations (ours starts at around 31:15, and I'm the guy who talks first for our team) - check out the giant on-stage hug we got going at the end when we were announced as the winners too :D

Hi! I loved your "Draw Your OC With Mine" contest entry. I also really admire your character design work for XMPT games - I'm sorry to bother you, but could I possibly ask you a question about that?

Wow, thanks! That means a lot! :)

Thank you. Well, I've always wanted to work in character concept work/art design for video games too. (I don't know how to do digital art yet, but I'm working on that.) But I don't really know where to start. Like, do I have to know about actual programming to work in game art? What do I have to know and what do I have to do in order to work in game art?

I was a bit worried I might write a really long, rambling answer to this, and so I decided to put it in a journal entry instead of as a comment.  Turns out it was a good call lol.  You can read my epically long reply to your question in my latest journal :)  Please ask away if you have any follow up questions!
